Resin flooring specialist Resin Surfaces Ltd (RSL), has given a fresh finish to a City of London landmark, following the selection of its Resuthane TG69 product to furnish Billingsgate fish market with a new floor.

The new Resuthane TG69 surface replaces a combination of terrazzo tiles, epoxy resin and concrete screeds that were widely acknowledged as being ugly and unfit for purpose.  Not only is the new solution aesthetically pleasing, but it is an improvement from a health and safety view, providing an hygienic, slip resistant floor finish. The project was undertaken by specialist contractor, Datum Industrial Flooring (Datum).

Working Saturday afternoons, evenings and Sundays, the old defective surface was hacked out replacing it with an acrylic infill prior to the application of RSL's leading polyurethane system. The 1200 m2. floor area was completed over 15 week-ends saving the Corporation 7 week-ends on it's original proposed programme.

Dick Lovegrove, managing director of Datum, commented: "We were originally invited to tender for overlaying the existing floor, which we refused as it would have been impossible to give the job the guarantee required under the contract.  It was our commitment to offer only the right solution that ended up winning us the job."

Resuthane TG69 is a water based polyurethane screed system that is formulated to be easy to apply and provide a durable floor surface capable of withstanding heavy wear.  It is ideally suited for use in food and drink environments such as Billingsgate, where high standards of hygiene are required, as it can be steam cleaned and withstand boiling water.

Now complete, the project provides a market that has been in place at Billingsgate since the 1400's with the high quality it deserves.  RSL managing director, Ivy Wroe, concludes: "We have always considered our Polyurethane products to be the 'jewel' in the RSL crown and are delighted to see them used in such a landmark project.  We are pleased to have been so closely involved with what is an impressive project and look forward to working with Datum again on many more projects in the future`."
