Unilever, one of the UK's leading FMCG companies needed a strong and durable wall coating for their offices within one of their flagship factories in Trafford Park. The office walls needed to be easy to clean as they are within a factory which is is a food production environment. In addition the brief demanded a very durable surface that would be resistant to damage from people and items moving between the offices and the factory.
RSL have previously produced many square meters of their Resutop epoxy resin flooring for the Unilever factory in Trafford Park, therefore both the company (RSL) and the products were known to the contractor and the flooring systems were proof of the consistent quality of RSL products. RSL assisted in the specification of a suitable wall finish. Ecuclad is a joint free system which can be moulded round corners providing an easy to clean and hard wearing surface, Ecuclad's joint free system provides an alternative to traditional wall cladding systems and pre formed panels.
Firstly the surface was rubbed down and cleaned to ensure a clean smooth surface for the product to adhere to which guarantees the best possible bond. The surface was then primed with Resuseal WB; a two part water based epoxy resin which seals the substrate ready for the Ecuclad base coats. The base coats are applied by brush and roller, in between the coats a layer of fibreglass is then embedded, the fibreglass provides the reinforcement and protection to the underlying wall. The system was then sealed with two coats of Resupen WB which is a hard wearing and durable polyurethane coating which has UV light stability. The final process ensures the wall is hard wearing, durable and easy to clean.
The results were a strong and protected wall which is able to withstand local damage and provides an hygienic, seamless durable and easy to clean surface.
