Wrigley factory project is no chew for RSL anti-static solutions

World renowned chewing gum manufacturers, The Wrigley Company, has turned to specialist resin manufacturer Resin Surfaces Limited (RSL) to provide anti static flooring products for use in the confectionary makers powder recovery rooms.

Wrigley's operates from a 45 acre site in Plymouth, using the latest technology to improve and make its much loved product ranges, including Wrigley's Extra and Hubba Bubba. During a refurbishment of the powder recovery plant, it was recommended by contractor, Industrial Flooring Solutions, that a new electrostatic dissipative resin floor was installed, in order to prevent combustion accidents that can be caused by working around fine powders.

The contractor used RSL's Resustat SL23 system on the 300m sq area, as the system is ideal for projects where antistatic properties and chemical resistance are needed. It consists of a conductive primer, on which a conductive copper tape grid is fixed down.

Surface preparation of the concrete substrate was the difficult part of the project, as a build-up of monomers had to be removed from the floor. Once prepared, the Resustat system was applied. A flowable, polyurethane smooth finish resin screed was then installed giving a matt colour finish.

Director at Industrial Flooring Solutions, Adrian Saxby, commented: "Wrigley are extremely pleased with the installation which not only gives the company a safe dissipative floor but also provides them with a tough, durable surface, which has good slip resistance and is easy to clean. By using RSL’s proven anti-static products, we were able to install a quality floor on time and within budget."
